Training Men to Preach

by Steve Higginbotham

For the past forty-five years, the Karns church of Christ has embraced the ministry of training faithful men to preach the gospel (2 Timothy 2:2). Over those 45 years, more than 400 men have been supported, taught, and trained through an intensive two-year program. Although there have been many changes in facilities, personnel, and technology, the fundamental vision of those elders who started the school and the message taught has remained the same.

Many of you who are reading this week’s bulletin are among those who spent two years of your life at Karns being taught the Bible and trained to preach. Not only that, you probably developed life-long relationships with several brothers and sisters that you are getting to rekindle this week. We especially solicit your continued prayers, support, and influence to assist us in continuing this good ministry. You know better than anyone, the good that can be accomplished here.

As you know, good preachers aren’t born, they’re made. If the church is going to be equipped to reach the lost and encourage the saved, we cannot sit back and hope we are prepared for the future. We must have mothers and fathers, preachers, and faithful congregations commit themselves to the task of mentoring, encouraging, and supporting as many men as possible to undertake this challenging work.

My request to you is that you continue to leverage your influence in support of the school so that we can better equip our great brotherhood. There is a great need for schools of preaching, maybe more so now than ever before. Let us continue to partner with each other and with God to do the greatest work and to meet the greatest need on earth.
