A Successful VBS!

I remember attending Vacation Bible School in 1968 during a hot summer in an old Tudor style building without air conditioning. Yes, they had VBS back then. I loved going to VBS as a lad. It made me want to go to church. It has been four decades since then, and I still fondly remember being picked to go up front, next to our preacher, as he lowered the huge microphone so that I could sing “Booster” before the whole congregation. I also remember shouting “BOOSTER!” at the top of my lungs at the appropriate cue.

I see every reason to believe the young folks today will likewise remember this year’s VBS for decades to come. VBS is a very important work at Karns. It is important to our young folks. Just ask my seven year-old daughter Ella, who had to miss most of VBS due to a tonsillectomy. She was heartbroken.

Year after year, while we may think the current VBS would be nearly impossible to improve upon, the next year it always seems to be even better. If you did not attend, you missed an excellent, pleasurable event. If you did not help, you missed a great opportunity to serve in the work of the church. We had nearly 300 attend each night, with over 300 Wednesday, including a host of volunteers which all seemed to be in the best of spirits. Lance and his good wife Amber did an exemplary job at planning, organizing, and executing the program this year, as they did last year. I wish to convey many thanks to all the folks who volunteered; to the teachers, to the actors, to the ones who created all the excellent props for the skits and puppets. “Thanks” also to the keepers, the decorators, those who worked the crafts, and game room, and the ones who brought and served cookies and drinks. Those who helped set up tables, chairs, and the tent. Also “thanks” to Bob and Laverne for the extra work without complaint. May God continue to bless us here at Karns with many caring folks for years to come.
