In Luke chapter 18, Jesus is discussing the parable of the persistent widow. He closes the parable in verse 8 by describing that God will give justice speedily and ends with the question, “Nevertheless when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” The last words “will he find faith on earth” are difficult words.
The manner of the question would seem to imply that very few will have the faith that Jesus is talking about. Jude 3 exhorts us to “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” It’s in that same sense that the Lord Jesus asks if He will find faith on the earth when He returns in power and great glory.
Will there exist on earth at the second coming of Christ the kind of Christians who could be described by this parable, who are like the widow who won’t give up on the judge until she gets justice, who are persistent and stouthearted to the end?
Do we have this faith? Will He find this faith on earth when he returns? If you look around in the world and take inventory of what’s going on you have to wonder.
