We are certainly in unsettling times. With the invasion of Ukraine, the threat to world peace seems to be greater in Europe than any time since the late 1930’s. We all wonder what will happen if the conflict escalates beyond the borders of Ukraine and into a World War III.
This level of concern takes my mind back to the days when I was a young elementary student during the height of the Cold War. Back in those days, we would have drills in school. The school bell would ring in different patterns to indicate which drill was being initiated; a fire drill, a tornado drill, or a fallout drill. We were instructed where to go on a regular basis and trained to look for the fallout shelter signs if we were out in public. This would frighten us young folks and make us wonder if we were going to be able to make it to Christmas. I would talk to my dad about the threat. He never seemed to worry about it. He said that he put his trust in God.
Being a young lad, I didn’t quite grasp trusting in God as he did, after all, he was a mature spiritual giant. However, in these days of uncertainty, and having gained spiritual maturity, I have a great comfort in trusting God. Matthew 24:6 says, And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. Here our Lord is answering questions related to the destruction of Jerusalem and the end time. But I would like to emphasize that He said “these things must come to pass”, “See that you are not troubled”. We should not be troubled. We should have full faith and pray for God’s will to be done.
Vladimir Putin has been put in place by God. We need not worry. Let’s not worry, but put our trust in Him. Matthew 6:27 & 33 says, Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Please pray for the innocent folks in Ukraine.
