Walking Alone?

By Terry Clark

Human nature is to be independent and self-sufficient. However, when one is too self-reliant in their relationship with God, there is a tendency to try and handle struggles, conflict, and worries alone. Pride can prevent us from asking God for guidance.

When we internalize troubles, the result is never good. We’ll never succeed trying to handle our own troubles. Not until we approach God in prayer will we see progress. What a relief!

We should also lean on our church family in time of need. I am concerned for those who try to tackle this life on earth alone, and I fear for those who are disconnected from brethren that “go at it” alone. When in fellowship with the body, there is always strength in numbers along with accountability to one another. Without our brothers and sisters and without the accountability, alone – we are vulnerable to Satan.

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen ( I Peter 5:5-11).

I appreciate our church family and when I am away, I am always glad to get home. Sadly, many see church as a place to be on Sunday and not a family of believers who support and encourage one another. Resolve to walk daily with the Lord and your church family in 2022 and not alone.
