… As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18, ESV).
During this time of year, most of us will likely participate in the giving and receiving of gifts made up of a variety of different things. All of these things are no doubt appreciated and prized when we first get them (after all, we probably asked for them). But, as we all know, over time, these things will begin to decay, break down and soon become obsolete. All earthly things are this way. Do you still have the first radio, first TV, watch, or cell phone you received? I doubt it, because all things of this earth will be new and wonderful when first obtained, but all of these things will eventually end up on Craigslist or in the trash.
We need to be sure we always keep our focus on Jesus, God, His Word, and Heaven as these things are eternal. These things will never fail or fade away, but will become more precious and cherished with the passage of time and a growing Christian maturity. So, during this season and every day to come, let’s all resolve to place our emphasis on those things that are heavenly in nature and watch our love for them grow and grow. Since these things are eternal, we need to make every effort to share them with all who we come in contact with and as we have the opportunity.
