The Harvest is Ripe
By Spencer Clark
These past few weeks have been an incredible whirlwind as we have reached into the Karns community and begun to follow up with the new connections we made. It’s an exciting time with all these wonderful things happening through the power of God’s Word. Yet, as many of us have realized, there are some large-scale implications for the church as we refocus some of our efforts towards evangelism.
Brothers and sisters from across the country have helped to sow the seed here in Karns and now it’s our turn to reap. We now need to reap the harvest that we did not plant and did not labor for (John 4:38). But regardless if you were involved with the initial campaign, we can rejoice together as we “gather fruit for eternal life” (4:36).
If you don’t read anything else in this article, read this: there is more work to be done than any of our elders, deacons, and ministers can possibly do on our own. We need you to help us gather the harvest of souls in Karns.
The good thing is that much of the work is not terribly hard and you can use skills you already have. We will need to make adjustments in our personal lives and take on new responsibilities at church. We will need to write more cards, do community service, visit contacts, and perhaps even conduct Bible studies with them. Our usual processes of doing things may change as we adapt to this new reality.
Remember that the reason we do this is not to kill time, do busy work, or run a community charity. We are doing this to expand the borders of God’s Kingdom by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our neighbors here in Karns.
The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. As Jesus instructed, we should be praying for more laborers to help gather this harvest (Luke 10:2). Pray often, but make sure that you too are right there with us as we go out into the fields and gather these souls who desire to join us on the path to eternal life.
