Are You Sowing the Seed?

By Terry Clark

We often sing this hymn. The first verse reads, “Are you sowing the seed of the kingdom, brother, In the morning bright and fair? Are you sowing the seed of the kingdom, brother, In the heat of the noonday’s glare? For the harvest time is coming on…”

This past week, during the Karns Vacation Bible School, we studied the parable of the sower (Mathew 13:1-9) and the meaning of this parable (Mathew 13:18-23). We learned that some seed fell by the wayside only to be devoured by the birds; some seed fell on stony ground, were unable to establish roots and withered away; some seed fell among the thorns only to be choked by the thorns; and some seed fell on good fertile ground and yielded a crop.

The American Missions Campaign (AMC) is just four weeks away! Brethren will gather at Karns church of Christ beginning July 23 to sow the seed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the power of God to salvation (Romans 1:16-17). We will be sowing the seed of the kingdom “in the morning bright and fair” and “in the heat of the noonday’s glare,” for this is true!

Representatives from AMC and the Karns eldership will organize teams to conduct the door knocking in our community and establish contacts for follow-up. Much help will be needed for the “follow on” work that will occur as a result of the door knocking. If you are a member of the Karns church family and you have not yet made plans to participate, there is still time to volunteer! Please see the Connect board to sign up to assist with the sound room, meal teams, card writers, benevolence work, follow-up Bible studies, new neighbor (welcome) baskets, and back-to-school supplies.

We pray the seed of the gospel of Christ will reach the fertile soil. “But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty”” (Matthew 13:23).
