Wonderful Sounds

I absolutely love it when we all come together to worship our Lord on the first day of the week as we are command to do.  Now on the first day of the week when the disciples came together to break bread…  (Acts 20:7). It fills my heart with joy to take part in the worship service to the Lord, and I am always very glad to be in the assembly. As King David stated, I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord (Psalm 122:1).

One of the most magnificent enjoyments, which I believe pleases both God and us, is the sounds made during worship. Of course, the hymns we offer in praise to the Lord involve each member singing and making melody in their heart, filling the whole building with such wonderful sound. If one is not led to be emotional at this sound, they need to re-evaluate their worship.

The words of edification are also wonderful sounds that I enjoy: Men offering words of praise and supplication to our Lord in prayer, and those presiding over the Lord’s supper with words remembering the sacrifice of Jesus. We also find edification from the words of the sermon, which give us knowledge and strength.

However, one of the most wonderful sounds heard from time to time, which fills the building, is the sound of the motor that raises the screen behind the pulpit. This sound has nothing to do with an act of worship, but it is glorious, nonetheless. When that motor turns on, it means a soul is putting on Christ in baptism. I have associated that sound with souls being saved and therefore think the sound of that motor raising the screen is a wonderful sound! Let us all work more diligently to choose two souls to bring to the Lord so that we may hear more often that wonderful sound of the screen raising!
