Who Can Stop Us?

As I pen this article, the date is September 27. That’s a significant date to me because on this same date, September 27, 2009, 15 years ago to the day, it was announced that Kim and I would be moving to Karns. During these past 15 years, there have been countless changes. Many people who were here when we arrived have since gone on to their rewards, and many newer faces have cast their lot with us. We have positioned ourselves to effectively minister in the future through new construction and renewed zeal and determination. We have also weathered the storm of a worldwide pandemic and the challenges it brought.

As I sit and reflect upon the past 15 years and consider the future of this congregation of God’s people, I am reminded of a statement God made concerning the people who were building the tower of Babel (Genesis 11). Since these people were united in purpose, communicated with each other, and had a willingness to work, God said, “Now nothing they purpose to do will be withheld from them.”

From God’s perspective, people who possess unity, communicate with each other, and have a willingness to work can accomplish whatever they set their minds on. While the people in Genesis 11 possessed these qualities, they wanted to use them for an evil purpose, and God directly intervened to stop them. But what if we committed ourselves to these same qualities, and for the purpose of furthering and strengthening the kingdom of God? What is there that we could not do?

My family has been so blessed by being a part of this church family and I have seen the power and results of this congregation possessing unity, communicating with each other, and having a willingness to work. We’re making great progress right now. So, let’s be vigilant. Remember, we have an adversary (1 Peter 5:8). Let’s not allow the enemy to derail us by disturbing our unity, breaking lines of communication among us, and causing us to pursue comfort and ease rather than work.

I see a bright future for the church at Karns as long as we continue to be united, communicate with each other, and have a willingness to work.
