“This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).
“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!” (Matthew 6:30)
“But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called `Today,’ so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin (Hebrews 3:13).
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
“Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit. Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away” (James 4:13-14).
“Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11).
“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34).
The scriptures have a lot to say about yesterday, today and tomorrow. All too often we spend an inordinate amount of time lamenting over the things we did not do or things we wished we had not done yesterday, but yesterday is forever gone. We also dwell too much on what will happen tomorrow, what it will bring, what it will be like, asking whether it will be good or bad. However, tomorrow is not here and may not even come.
For us to live as God would have it, we must focus on and live in today. We need to start each day thanking God for giving us the day and pledging to Him our desire to do His will and accomplish something in His honor. God will provide for our needs each and every day. Life is so much more enjoyable when we learn to live, faithfully trusting in our Lord to take care of us – today.
