Think on These Things

As I am sitting at my computer writing this article I can’t help but think about Benjamin turning 20 today. Wow! Where has the time gone? He has grown up in a very different world than when Sherrye and I were his age. We have done our best to maintain a stable Christian environment and Christian worldview for our kids, but the world around them continues to hold opposing ideas and notions.

The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:8, ” Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” In this month’s issue of Think magazine the editor’s comments page discusses the push in our society for religious tolerance over true religious practice. The article states, “Religion has become a buffet line in which individuals choose what they like best.” We have all experienced this in our conversations with our friends, coworkers and neighbors. We must all continue to be diligent in our efforts to practice what the Bible teaches in our daily lives.

The concern we should all share is when our young people, trained and nurtured in our homes and church family, are ready to leave the nest, will they remain faithful or will they be tempted to follow the world, embracing whatever religious view feels right? The best thing we can all do is resolve to be the best examples of Christians we can possibly be both at home and here at Karns. Start today by deciding to be more faithful in your attendance, more active in church activities, more involved in evangelistic efforts, and more visible in daily-living as a Christian. To better keep up with the culture and strengthen your Christian worldview, consider reading Think magazine. Also consider their newest publication for young people called Ignite.

Luke 16:8 “…for the sons of this age are more shrewd in relation to their own kind than the sons of light.” Brethren, we have work to do.
