The Problem With Some Christians

by Steve Higginbotham

Did you know that not everyone who professes to be a follower of Jesus is committed to the task of discipleship? I’m sure most of us know that to be true. But what I might not realize due to self-deception is that this may describe my relationship with the Lord. Consider the following and ask yourself if any of these items apply to you.

Some Christians… Revere the Bible, but don’t read it. Believe the 10 Commandments, but don’t know them. Love God, but don’t abhor sin. Want a crown, but don’t want a cross. Want a Savior, but don’t want a Lord. Want a harvest, but won’t sow any seed. Want the right to pray, but don’t. Want Hollywood to clean up its act, but go to all the movies regardless. Want to go to Heaven, but don’t want to go to church. Want to be served, but don’t want to serve. Want to die the death of the righteous, but live the life of a sinner. Want spiritual growth, but don’t want to feed on his word for nourishment. Want God to be their Father, but don’t want to be disciplined like a child. Want a relationship with Jesus, but don’t want to be tied down to a church. Want a preacher to “tell it like it is,” but do as they please. Want God to be 1st in their lives, but he always comes in 2nd to their social calendar.

We are all blessed to be a part of such a committed group of disciples here at Karns. I don’t know if you’ve been here a short time or a long time, but what I would ask you to do is to take advantage of your surroundings while you are here. Take advantage of the opportunity the Lord has given you to be a part of such a focused, mature, and spiritual group of Christians. I don’t know that you’ll ever have another opportunity to “be better” than you have now, being surrounded by so many people who love the Lord and his word.
