Our emphasis this year is based on James 1:22, “Be doers of the Word and not hearers only.” Of course, we are aware of Jesus’ instructions in what we call the Great Commission found in Mark 16:15&16, “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”
We are also aware that the world is everything outside our door and especially includes our family, friends and coworkers over which we may have some positive influence for the Kingdom of God.
However, today I want to draw attention to those who this congregation supports in foreign countries:
Carlos Hernandez is in Honduras and assists two congregations. He and his wife Emy have two children. We have had several mission trips to this area, the last being in 2012.
Ernesto Rigor, his wife Grace and 4 children labor in the Philippines. They are in the Koronadal area which is predominantly Muslim and has somewhat dangerous living conditions.
Clancy Etienne and his wife Annestine serve in St. Croix. The congregation meets in their home, but they are close to purchasing land for a building.
Brett and Joanne Rutherford work with her parents Ian and Maple McPherson in Australia. Brett and Joanne have three children. Their son Mitchell plans to come to Southeast next school year. Brett is the son of Rod and Brenda Rutherford.
Don Iverson, Donnie’s father, has been working in India for over 20 years. Much of his work is with Bible training schools and children’s homes. The group he works with baptized nearly 12,000 souls last year.
Please remember these families in your prayers. Remember the family members because they are all serving God in their respective mission fields.
For the elders, Dave Benner
