Last Sunday’s sermon was “Same God. New Year.” Steve emphasized God doesn’t change; however, will 2026 find a new you (me) or someone who is content to continue old ways? Secondly, will we serve God with vigor and zeal more than before?
Every Christian should strive to improve their service to God, and a good starting point is to look to our greatest example of service, which is Jesus. Jesus served while on earth; he washed feet, he fed, he healed, and ministered to many.
In Mathew 20:20-28, Jesus addressed a bold request from the mother of James and John (Zebedee’s sons) to sit at Jesus’ right and left in His kingdom. Jesus’ response concluded with “And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.””
Jesus taught that we should place others before ourselves, and he led by example through service to others and ultimately bearing the sins of mankind upon the cross. God expects all Christians to serve in the kingdom and to serve others.
The Karns shepherds desire that every member get engaged in some area of service. There is much to do in the kingdom and within the Lord’s church, and there are countless opportunities to serve. While many visible roles exist at Karns, you can serve by encouraging others, visiting, sending cards, making calls to those missing, helping with meals and other events, welcoming visitors, and much more.
Every member is asked to connect somewhere and contribute to the effectual working of the body. Ephesians 4:16 states, “from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”
The shepherds will be presenting the Vision book for 2026 this month. We ask each member to review the ministry areas and find an area to serve. Each ministry area has a contact at the bottom of the page. Please reach out to them.
The shepherds love you and care for your souls!
