Someone once told me that my family was one big happy family, and I took it as a tremendous compliment. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the same could be said about our church family? As children of God, we are brothers and sisters in Him and should strive to become one big happy family.
“Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. God settles the solitary in a home” (Psalms 68:5-6).
God’s design has always been for His people to find a place within a family. From the beginning, He saw that it wasn’t good for man to be alone and created the first family. Cain and Abel were part of that family, showing that humanity was meant to live in relationships. The psalmist reminds us that God not only cares for the fatherless and widows but also places the lonely into families.
In the New Testament, God’s plan is fully revealed—the church is described as a FAMILY. We begin our prayers with “Our Father,” affirming that we are His children. The apostle John declares, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God” (1 John 3:1). Paul adds that, as children of God, we are joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). Jesus is our brother; we are FAMILY.
Solomon wrote, “There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24), reminding us that spiritual bonds can be even stronger than biological ones. The church, the body of Christ, is where this is most beautifully fulfilled.
Just as earthly families face challenges, our spiritual FAMILY does too. However, God’s FAMILY is unique—it strives to overcome differences with love and unity. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we seek to be one with each other, going beyond mere appearances to truly unite in the Lord. We do this because we are FAMILY.
God’s plan includes relationships that transcend our earthly families. Let’s commit to working together, growing in love, and strengthening our spiritual bonds—because we are FAMILY.
