I have been looking for someone for nearly the entirety of my forty-two years of preaching. Yet, he remains elusive. I have never met him. I heard of him when I lived in West Virginia, and when we moved to Kentucky, the church there knew of him as well. Then, of all things, when we moved to Karns, to my surprise, he’s known of around these parts as well.
After forty-two years, I have just about given up on the prospects of ever meeting him. But if I do get the chance, I want to shake his hand. From what I have heard others say, he is an amazing Christian who has the heart of a servant. I believe it! He has to be one of the busiest Christians I have ever heard of. He’s “Johnny-on-the-spot!” People say…
• …“Someone” needs to take care of the church property (e.g., mow, weed eat, wash windows, and pick up trash). Sure enough, “Someone” took it upon himself to do it.
• …“Someone” needs to greet visitors, speak to them, invite them to sit with them, give them directions, and take them to lunch. Yet again, “Someone” volunteered.
• … “Someone” needs to teach a Bible class for a quarter, and of course, “Someone” enlisted to teach.
• … “Someone” needs to encourage the weak, visit the lonely, and pray for the sick, and “Someone” always comes through.
• … “Someone” needs to grade Bible correspondence courses, and “Someone” jumps in and does it without complaint.
And the list could go on and on. Friends, if you happen to know “Someone,” would you please thank him? I don’t know where the church would be if it weren’t for “Someone.” And, just in case “Someone” is reading this article, let me personally say, “Thank you for having the heart of a servant, and for stepping forward and doing all the things you do, both great and small, to advance the cause of Christ. I pray you never grow weary in your well-doing!”
