Heaven, Lonely?

I was listening to a talk radio show during my drive home from work one day where the host and a guest were discussing recent developments revolving around a television personality and reactions to his comments regarding alternative lifestyles.

Then the host, in defense of the statements, quoted the following verses from First Corinthians 6:9-10, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

At this point, the guest exclaimed (must to my disgust), “I am going to be sad in heaven, since there will hardly be anyone there.” The host asked what was she talking about, and the guest replied, “With what you just mentioned from the Bible, there won’t be anyone there. Most people have done those things.” The host added verse 11 said, “And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.” He added that those whose are in Christ will be forgiven and find a home in heaven. She replied that most everyone has done such things, he had done those things. He quoted, in fine fashion, Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

She seemed angry that anyone would believe in a God who would impose such restrictions! The host did his best to try and explain, but the guest seemed determined to ridicule him. This is how many see Christianity today, as a harsh, restrictive God regulating us from fun. The ignorance of the scriptures evidenced by this woman is only one symptom of the moral decay that is gnawing at the heart of the country!
