In Matthew 25:14-30, we read the Parable of the Talents. The master gave one servant 5 talents, another 2 talents, and a third 1 talent. While the master was away on his journey, two of the servants traded and doubled their talents, while the third servant hid his and did nothing with it. When the master returned, he was pleased with the servants who used their talents and condemned the one who did nothing with his.
I believe this parable applies to us as parents to raise our children in the way God has told us to. God has blessed us with children, and it is our job to return them to Him. Psalm 127:3-5 says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them.” In Matthew 25:26, the master calls the servant who did nothing with his talent a wicked and lazy servant. As parents, we cannot sit idly by and do nothing with the blessing God has given us.
It is our responsibility as parents to equip our children with all the tools they need to become children of God. We must teach them with love and discipline. We must live out and be the example we are training them to be. It is a very hard job sometimes, but we will see the fruit of our labor. Seeing our children grow in Christ while loving, forgiving, and sharing the gospel in a lost world pleases our Savior. Proverbs 22:6 tells us to “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” We must start early, be consistent, and intentional.
I am thankful to be a part of a family that shares Godly values and is doing a great job of teaching our children to be a light in this world.
May God continue to bless our family!
