Doing Our Share

Considering one another also means the willingness to serve wherever needed in the Lord’s church. Many years ago, I knew of an individual who was asked by the elders to help in a particular area; however, the person did not think it was the best use of their talents and believed they should be used in a more prominent role.

Christians need to do what is best for the church, the body of Christ, even if that means not doing what we would prefer to do. Ephesians 4:15-16 says “but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head–Christ– from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” This passage indicates that every Christian is active, doing his or her share to promote the growth of the church. We cannot fulfill this scriptural requirement If our wants and desires are placed above the needs of the church. And it does not grant an exception to Christians if they cannot find something they would rather do.

There is no shortage of opportunity to serve at our congregation. The Vision Book provides a good picture of most ministry areas. If you haven’t found a place to get “plugged in,” please contact the deacon or coordinator of any ministry area for more information. If you determine that an area has plenty of laborers, I am confident you can find a another place to serve and be blessed by it.

If we are truly “considering one another” as instructed by scripture (Hebrews 10:24-25), we will be actively engaged in service with our brothers and sisters at Karns. While it is understood that physical limitations can sometimes affect our level of involvement, it is important that “every part”, every member of the body of Christ does its share to ensure the growth and edification of the church.

The shepherds love you.
