Consider One Another

As we enter 2019, we realize God has expectations for each one of us. As we do every year, the elders have chosen a theme for focus in 2019 (not neglecting anything else) and that theme is “Consider One Another.” “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works” (Hebrews 10:24).

We need not be selfish and care only for ourselves but should continually be mindful of each other’s wants and needs as members of the one family of God. Our purpose in this is to excite and encourage one another to love and good works. This same sentiment was expressed by Christ in His sermon on the Mount where he says to his disciples, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 5:16.).

Recently, Sherrye had us give considerable thought to something that proved to be very telling. We each made a list of the top 10 men and top 10 women that have had the most positive impact on each of our lives. Naturally we had each other on each other’s list, for which I am personally thankful. We also had certain family members on there as well. But most interestingly, the largest portion of our lists was made up entirely of church family members, past and present. Our church family has always been a very big part of our lives and has been significant in helping us through life’s many ups and downs.

Consider making your own lists and I hope and pray that you too will have many from our church family on your lists. And while we are at it, let’s consider one another in such a way that we are a positive influence for each other in our church family and hopefully we’ll be on someone’s list.

Let’s all work hard at being the kind of family God would have us to be and resolve to be more diligent in our efforts to consider one another! In so doing we can stir up love and good works for the Lord.
