Sherrye, on certain occasions, reminds me and herself that we need to be thankful for all of the opportunities we have to serve. This quote from her often comes when I may be expressing some level of concern or disappointment over someone’s reaction to some service provided to them. There are times when people we help may not appreciate the help we have given or they may even speak despairingly of you or the help provided. These times of discouragement can foster a feeling of hopelessness and a tendency to cease efforts to assist these certain folks any further. But Sherrye and the scriptures are there to remind us (me) of our goal and purpose in life: to serve anyway. As we go about serving others let us keep the following verses in mind:
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45 ESV).
“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13 ESV).
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith” (Galatians 6:9-10 ESV).
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (I Peter 4:10 ESV).
Jesus came to serve and so should we. Let us always be thankful for any and every opportunity we have to serve.
