We have just completed our yearly men’s retreat. Those men who attended have enjoyed the company and camaraderie of church brothers. I discover that in this setting, men discuss matters more openly and spiritually than in normal settings. I have often wondered why it takes a retreat setting to encounter the heightened spiritual discussion, and wish we could have them more often, but I am very thankful we can at the retreat.
I enjoy listening to my brothers share their stories of how they became Christians. I enjoy the lessons as well as the informal time spent in various conversations with brothers. I am certain that such discussion helps us to grow spiritually.
The Bible says in I Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” To edify means to instruct and improve, to build up. What better setting do we have than the retreat to edify one another? Paul also wrote to the Roman brothers: “Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another” (Romans 15:14). If you missed the men’s retreat this weekend, you missed a great opportunity to have excellent fellowship and to grow spiritually. I am thankful to all who chose to come and take part.
To the women, the ladies retreat is coming soon…
