We read in the book of Nehemiah how the wall of Jerusalem was rebuilt in only 52 days (6:15). This great accomplishment was achieved through trust in GOD and a desire to work. “And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the king’s words that he had spoken to me. So they said, “Let us rise up and build.” Then they set their hands to this good work” (2:18). The people of Jerusalem had a mind to work (4:6).
When we put our mind to it and come together as a body with the same purpose, we can accomplish much. It never ceases to amaze me how often this congregation rises to the occasion in order to meet a need. Last Saturday, the Karns congregation came together with an objective to prepare the basement for use by the school as temporary offices. The goal was met with great success, because you had a mind to work.
We are afforded so many opportunities to serve God. These include, but are not limited to, inviting our friends and neighbors to VBS, helping with the Karns fair in July, hosting a devotional for our college-age or youth, grading Bible correspondence courses, delivering meals to shutins, making visits, sending cards of encouragement, calling and checking on someone you are missing, inviting others in your home to know them better, and simply extending words of encouragement to one another. There is something every member can do to ensure an active, functioning body of Christ at Karns. Ephesians 4:15-16 says, “but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head–Christ– from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”
We cannot do everything, but we can do something. The church is capable of doing much good for the kingdom of God when we put our mind to it.
